Halo:Combat Evolved, the first instalment of the halo series. Groundbreaking campaign gameplay and multiplayer experience. Won game of the year one time. Until Halo came out, perfect dark was my favorite shooter, not just for the story line (which was pretty cool) but for the multiplayer mode. Everything was customizable. Halo did a great job of letting the players customize their own multiplayer expericences offline, while offering a great online experience as well.

The guns in halo are great (see covenent and human weapons). Throughout the campaign and also in multiplayer, the pistol is your best friend. in multiplayer 3 headshots is a kill, and in campaign it mows down grunts, and takes out Elites almost as fast. Its 2 times zoom and large clip make it a winner. The sniper is a step better, with 5 times the zoom of a pistol and 10 times the power, the sniper will kill just about anything in one shot (provided you hit them in the head). Assault rifle, good for spraying bullets everywhere and suppressing multiple contacts. Covenent weapons are fun to play with also, biggest bummer about Halo though, YOU CANT PICK UP THE SWORD! You see an Elite kill a man with one hit and think, "I gotta get me one of those", but you can't. An issue which was rememdied in Halo 2.
